Halter's Series E Funding Round

Halter, a New Zealand-based AgriTech company specializing in animal management systems, has announced a significant Series E funding round of $220 million, valuing the company at $2 billion. This round was led by Founders Fund and included participation from Blackbird, DCVC, Bond, Bessemer, NewView, Ubiquity, Promus, and Icehouse Ventures.

Purpose of Funding

The newly raised capital will be directed towards supporting ranchers and farmers who are already using Halter's technology and extending the solution to more operations globally. This investment is one of the largest-ever in the agtech sector, reflecting the growing demand for virtual fencing technology.

Company Overview

Founded in 2016, Halter has made a name for itself by providing solar-powered collars that use GPS, audio cues, and gentle vibrations to manage cattle within virtual boundaries. This allows ranchers to control herds remotely via a smartphone app, eliminating the need for traditional physical fencing.

Global Reach and Impact

Halter serves over 2000 ranchers and farmers across New Zealand, Australia, and the U.S., with a million of its collars now sold. Since its U.S. launch in 2024, American ranchers have built 60,000 miles of virtual fencing using Halter's technology.

CEO's Perspective

“We started Halter because we believed technology could fundamentally change what it means to run a ranch, and enable ranchers to use innovation to build long-term futures on their land,” said Craig Piggott, CEO and founder of Halter.

Expansion Plans

Halter plans to use the new funds to grow its commercial and field operations in the U.S., New Zealand, and Australia, and to expand into other international markets, starting with Ireland and the U.K. later this year. The company is also exploring further expansion in North and South America.

Investment in Product Development

Investment will continue across product development, focusing on animal health monitoring and pasture management, shaped by customer usage in the field. The company remains committed to supporting ranchers and farmers in building their operations with Halter.
