OpenAI ARR hit $10B

Jun 10, 2025

OpenAI has hit an annual recurring revenue (ARR) of $10 billion as of June 2025—nearly doubling from around $5.5 billion at the end of December 2024. This rapid growth is fueled by surging demand for ChatGPT, across consumer subscriptions, business-tier services, and API sales. The figure notably excludes licensing revenue from Microsoft and large one-time deals.

The company’s flagship product, ChatGPT, drives the majority of this ARR. As of March 2025, OpenAI serves over 500 million weekly active users and more than 3 million paying business customers, marking substantial increases in both consumer and enterprise adoption in a short time frame. In under three years since its launch, ARR skyrocketed from just $1.6 billion to $10 billion, showcasing an 82% year-over-year growth fueled by strategic feature rollouts like GPT‑4o, voice mode, and API enhancements.

Bolstered by a $40 billion funding round in March 2025 at a $300 billion valuation, led by SoftBank, OpenAI is leveraging this capital to scale infrastructure, acquire strategic assets, and diversify offerings. It has secured landmark defense contracts, diversified cloud compute relationships—including new partnerships with Google Cloud—and is actively acquiring companies like Windsurf and hardware startup io (led by Jony Ive). Despite last year’s $5 billion operating loss, the company is on track to hit its 2025 revenue target of $12.7 billion.
