GPTZero, an AI detection startup founded by Princeton graduate Edward Tian and Alex Cui, surpassed $30 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) and announced profitability in 2024.
The company, initially built as a senior thesis project by Tian, gained significant traction with over 19 million registered users.
Despite only raising $13.5 million in total funding across a $3.5 million seed round led by Uncork Capital and a $10 million Series A led by Nikhil Basu Trivedi's Footwork, GPTZero grew rapidly while keeping efficient financial operations.
Recently acquired by Superhuman, a rebranded entity formed after Grammarly's acquisition of Superhuman email, GPTZero's AI detection technology will be integrated alongside Superhuman's existing tools to enhance their ability in identifying AI-generated content and optimizing human-written material.
